Hurstpierpoint CollegeIn 2007 Hurspierpoint Tenants and Residents Association launched 'Adventurecus'. Named by local children the project aimed to provide good quality experiences for local children in a wide variety of activites and experiences. These activities included, Canoeing, Tennis, Football, Basketball. The children were provided with fully trained coaches in each skill area and were often in groups of ten children or less - a far better ratio of children to trainer than is often provided in paid for services of this kind in the local area. The amazing thing is that through the generosity of local organisations, through grant applications and also through the huge support of Hurstpierpoint College, we were able to provide this experience free of charge. The children were also transported to and from the venue free of charge.

Summer 2008

Bigger, Better with much more sport!

In 2008 we plan to repeat and extend the project by making an even wider variety of activities available and enabling more children to take part. We have two venues this year and are able to offer watersports and outdoor rock climbing as well as a wider variety of traditional sports.

Children arriving at Adventurecus by minibusPart of the success of last year was also as a result of the support of local people to help supervise the children, drive the minibuses etc. We are going to need even more help this year. Helping out in this kind of activity is a great experience for the volunteers as well as the children themselves. It can even help you to improve the quality of your applications for jobs or promotions. You don't have to help every day, so please put yourselves forward to help on whatever days are possible.
